All the best!
General Instructions
These are the general instructions you need to refer to throughout this course:
- Familiarise yourself with the overall curriculum
- Study the lessons thoroughly before you start the sessions with your child
- Each lesson gives you clear instructions. Follow them diligently.
- Ensure that you complete all activities in the sequence provided
- The lessons have a combination of text instructions, images, audio files, and video files (wherever applicable)
- Each lesson has a learning section and a practice section
- Study the activities, questions, and answer keys before you start the lesson with your child
- Each lesson has a learning objective and outcome – note that this should be achieved
- Each lesson has a practice for mastery checklist at the end – check this consistently before moving on to the next lesson
- Download the letter tiles document at the end of this lesson – print it out, cut the letter tiles, and use them throughout the course
Learning Readiness
Check the following aspects for your child before you begin. If they are struggling with any of these, pay special attention and support them as you progress through the course.
- Child is familiar with letters of the alphabet
- Child can follow simple instructions – Eg: look at this book, read this page, drink your milk
- Child can focus on an activity for at least 15 minutes – Eg: playing any indoor or outdoor games
- Child can hold a pencil in a writing position and write shapes, numbers, letters on a sheet of paper
Note about Pronunciation
Wherever there is a difference in American and British pronunciation, we have used the British pronunciation
Tips for Parents and Teachers
Phonics teaches children how to read unfamiliar words by themselves. For most readers, many words are unfamiliar and are encountered for the first time. Building the skill to decode such words into their respective sounds today decides how well they can read and write in the future.
Course tip
Please remember to mark each lesson in the learning path complete once you have finished it. You can always come back to it later.
